The Director of Office of Fair Access, Sir Martin Harris, received a letter from Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) ministers last week expressing the value the government puts on fair access to higher education.

The letter dated 10 February, documents the final draft of new guidance on the monitoring of access agreements for higher education institutions, which asks Harris to be more challenging and demanding of universities seeking to charge higher fees.

Santander Universities Global Division has renewed an existing agreement with Imperial College London, enhancing its support scholarships for students and academics’ research.

The new agreement, which was originally signed in 2009, has been injected with a substantial increase in funds. This increase will see the number of scholarships available for talented students rise from six to 16.
