Greener Living

The Government's Greener Living Fund was launched yesterday with the aim of helping individuals and communities in England to live more sustainably, reduce their carbon footprint and reduce pressure on national resources. It is hoped that the new consortium of partners, which includes the National Union of Students (NUS), the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) and Studentforce, will impact greatly on universities, with the NUS stating that they aim to change the behaviour of 90,000 students and staff across 20 universities in England.

NUS President Wes Streeting said: "Students in the UK care passionately about the environment. The Green Living Fund means NUS can support them to live green lifestyles and enthuse those around them to do the same. Students today will have a major influence on the world tomorrow, meaning the impact is direct and long lasting."

The project aims to promote sustainable living by promoting better energy management, increasing recycling, reducing non essential flying, and adopting lower carbon diets.
