The Bologna Process
23rd May 2008Bologna is the word on everyone's lips at the moment. Following HEPI's report suggesting that the UK HE sector is losing touch with it's European counterparts – and possibly standing to lose revenue as a result – it seems that the UK is finally ready to embrace Europe.
Maybe our island status holds us apart from European unity, but whether it's joining the Euro or getting inovled in the Bologna reforms, the UK seems to characteristically maintain a quiet distance from its European cousins. In the case of Bologna, this could be because until now, many European countries have been catching up with the UK, but now that course structure is synchronising, European universities are poised to compete with the UK for international students from around the world.
I interviewed, David Crosier of the Eupean University Association, about the Bologna Process for a feature in the next magazine and the reforms taking place are impressive and inspiring. The time to engage is now. look our for the full interview in the next issue of University Business and post your opinion on the forum.
