Next issue of University Business

I'm sure you all looking forward to the next issue of University Business landing on your desks in the next few days but in the meantime let me bring you up to date with what your copy of UB will deliver.
Funding is a concern across the board so we look at how UK universities are protecting their share of foreign development and R&D contracts in our Best of British feature. Further ways to cut costs and reduce spending including IT sustainability, due to be the next big green issue affecting HE establishments UB looks at schemes that have worked. University property portfolios are another important sources of assets that can be sold to release capital for redevelopment, we highlight some successful examples such as Imperial College, London and Manchester Metropolitan University.
The hot topic of the moment is widening participation. Universities UK have just released a statement in response to the release of UK Higher Education performance indicators from HESA, "All the UK's universities are committed to offering the opportunity of higher education to those who can benefit from it, regardless of background. The higher education sector is making progress in this area but universities cannot do this alone. We must see an improvement in academic attainment at school and college by young people from poorer backgrounds as well as an increase in the pool of 16 year olds continuing on in education."
