Queen Margaret University to open UK's first campus in Singapore

Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, is set to become the first UK university with a campus in Singapore. The university announced an agreement for the establishment of the QMU Asia campus in Singapore, opening up UK higher education opportunities for students across the Asia Pacific region.
QMU Asia Campus, a joint venture between Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh (QMU) and the East Asia Institute of Management (EASB), is the product of a seven-year collaboration. The two principals have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that now provides for detailed negotiation to create a joint venture company based in Singapore.
The new development with EASB, one of Singapore’s premier private HE organisations, will enable increased numbers of students from Asia to study in Singapore and gain a degree from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
Future plans for the QMU Asia campus include the development of a centre for bi-lingual curricula development and the possibility of developing courses in banking and financial activities. The design of bilingual English-Chinese courses will facilitate access for an even wider pool of students from the region. As a country where several languages are in daily use, Singapore provides an ideal location for such a development.
Professor Anthony Cohen, Principal of Queen Margaret University, said: “This is an enormously exciting and innovative project for Queen Margaret University and for the EASB. It is based on a sound record of collaboration, which has succeeded over seven years because both partners are absolutely committed to the quality of our educational provision. It gives us both the confidence to extend our partnership for the great benefit of Singaporean and regional students and of the businesses for which they will eventually work.”
