Under-funded laboratories are liabilities

Professor George Griffin, chairman of the Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogencs, informed MPs recently that dangerous pathogens held in university labs are in danger of escaping, as funding for high-security biological containment is not high enough. After the fiasco of foot-and-mouth disease leaking from the Pirbright Laboratory, reviews have shown that the conditions of scientific buildings need considerable improvement.
