Bristol receives two science accolades

The University of Bristol has received two international accolades for its innovative research. Bristol was selected from 200 universities worldwide to receive two 2008 HP Labs Innovation Research Awards, which fund research between academic institutions and HP Labs to generate breakthroughs in information technology.

Open University launches YouTube channel


The Open University has launched its own YouTube channel, OUView. The channel features more than 300 educational videos from well-known contributors including David Attenborough and James Dyson.

Going green at Leeds


The University of Leeds has embarked on a programme to improve waste management and recycling as a key environmental objective.
In 2003, it cost the university more than £100,000 to dispose of its 1,625 tonnes of waste, of which just 17 per cent was recycled.

HEFCE provides £8.3 million to boost workforce development


As part of HEFCE's employer engagement strategy, the Universities of Teesside, Staffordshire and Cumbria, and Worcester College of Technology are developing new relationships with employers to support business growth and employee development, supported by more than £8 million of HEFCE funding.

The University of Sussex has launched an online campus on the website Second Life.

The 3D internet 'island', developed by Sussex graduate members of the University's web team, has been designed to look like the real University of Sussex campus and will be used by the university for teaching and marketing.
